Although well known in its native Italy, the Piaggio brand name is surprisingly little known, even throughout much of Europe. However this is quickly changing, as the Piaggio brand is becoming increasingly known for its innovative models, engines and concepts that are coming from its factories. During 2007 Piaggio experienced a 1000% (yes, a one thousand percent) increase in sales in Australia compared to 2006, and 2 of the top 5 best selling scooters in Australia in 2009 were Piaggio scooters. Moreover in 2008 no less than four of the eight finalists in Scooter Magazine’s ‘Scooter of the Year’ were Piaggio models, which highlights just how strong this brand has become.  In 2010 the Piaggio Fly was the top seller of the year, a feat that was repeated in 2011, with the Piaggio Zip being the top selling 50cc in 2011 too.    And in 2012, the Piaggio Typhoon has already hit the top 10 in the first half of the year, pretty amazing for a new scooter!
